Various Tidbits on Lost...

What often gets me about LOST is that it's got so much going on that I feel people often overlook a ton of information. I think it can still be said that we haven't seen all the pieces, so we don't really know how it will all fit together, but this late in the game there are a few areas where there is enough to safely say "I think this looks like an arm," or "I think this is the mountain range over here."

Here are a few pieces. Some of which has been culled from loglines straight from ABC, some of which has been mentioned in podcasts, some of which has been read on blogs or in magazines, some of which theorized with my dear friend Kristin and some of which are clearly the insane delusions of sense bouncing around my head.

BEN IS DEAD/BEN IS NOT DEAD
Don't worry. Ben is alright, at least for now. I wish I had some wisened answer here, but the fact is, ABC's loglines for the 4/1 episode gave it away. "Kate goes to extreme measures to save Ben's life when Jack refuses to help. Meanwhile, Kate begins to tell the truth about the lie in order to protect Aaron." So unless ABC was off, Ben is in bad shape but Kate wants Jack to help him.

THE OLD HITLER CONUNDRUM
The question is, does this change our timeline? Creators Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelloff spoke about this on last week's podcast, asking if you'd go back in time and kill Hitler if you could, and Lindelloff also threw out there a line about What if you go back in time to kill someone and you mess things up and just hurt them - does that act turn them into the bastard they are destined to become? Did Sayid just help create the Ben we know?

WHAT DOES BEN KNOW AND WHEN DID HE KNOW IT
Remember, the rules changed once our Castaways become "Unstuck in Time." Sawyer said Faraday said so, we just don't know how. Faraday didn't seem too concerned with everyone going their own way and staying with Dharma or whatnot, and that's a heck of a lot more impactful than the proverbial butterfly flapping its wings. That means the pictures in the cabin were always there. That means the list of "Good People" that Ben made up with Kate, Jack, Hurley, etc, may just as well been handed over from Ben's memory of his childhood as opposed to from Jacob.

GHOST CLAIRE'S WORDS
Remember when Claire appeared to Kate and said ''Don't bring him back, Kate! Don't you dare bring him back!'' Sure, at the time we all thought she was talking about Aaron. Same goes for when ghost Charlie sent Hurley a message saying "You're not supposed to raise him." Well, apply those words to John Locke...

THE PURGE/THE INCIDENT
I definitely don't think we're going to see The Purge happen, or at least not this season (it happens in 1992, and we're not going to see our Castaways there for another 15 or so years). We saw it happen with Ben already, though Damon and Carlton have implied greatly that there is more to that story. The finale this year is called "The Incident," and the "incident" we all know of is whatever happened to cause the great energy underneath The Hatch, that infected the Dharma folk and led to Radzinksi's fear of leaving it, what causes Dr. Chang to lose/lost use of his left arm, why the button must be pressed every 108 minutes, etc. Maybe Chang will come before the finale, but I think it's safe to assume we'll see a good chunk of the above explained in true Lost fashion. I have to think it has something to do with the rabbits in the Orchid orientation film. Remember, it appeared two versions of the same rabbit appeared in time, and there was great concern that something bad would happen if they were to meet...

JUGHEAD
I found Damon & Carlton's mention of Jughead in the same breath as being a fan of "The Trash Can Man" from Stephen King's The Stand really interesting...

IS THE JOKE ON US? HAS THE ZOMBIE SEASON ALREADY BEGUN?
Locke is back from the dead. Same thing probably happened with Christian Shephard, as his body was never found after 817 crashed and Jack saw him going off into the jungle. When Sawyer killed the Hostiles looking to kill Amy, she insisted they bury the bodies, and Richard wanted the bodies back as well. Do the dead rise on the island? Is there an army of the dead out there that Richard is leading until John rejoins them?

WHO IS JACOB?
I have no clue. I've sometimes thought he has connection to the Black Rock, but then it seems to make more sense that he'd date back to at least the time of the statue. But I do know who will be playing him.

EGYPTOLOGY
This season Lost has had a strong reincarnation theme going on. But aside from the ankhs and signs and such, there seems to be a lot more of a link to Egypt that is becoming apparant.

NAMES: Sure, Horace's name can also be seen as Horus, the Sky/Sun/War God, but I also realized recently that the initials of Richard Alpert are RA, another Falcon-headed Sun God.
